ARFhouse All Stars
ARFhouse All Stars is our program aimed at promoting difficult to place dogs. We have personally been moved and inspired by many of these dogs, and in our eyes they truly are “All Stars”. We produce a monthly e-mail highlighting one of our All Stars. ARFhouse All Stars are featured on our website among all adoptables, and are highlighted on this page. If you have a questions about one of our All Stars, email us at info@arfchicago.org.
What's so special about special-needs dogs?
Deck's sweet personality (and a walk like no one else's!)
 |
Deck (Adopted!) is a shining light among our ARFhouse All-Stars: animals whose special needs make them extra-special pets. Deck happens to be missing his right front leg—but that just puts an extra bounce in his step! He loves to play fetch, walks wonderfully on a leash, and knows basic obedience too. In spite of the accident that injured his leg and scarred his hip, Deck loves each new experience that comes his way. Friendly with other dogs, with cats, and with kids, this 2-year-old German Shepherd mix would make a great addition to any family! |
Pablo's gentle soul and his unconditional love!
Pablo (Adopted!) is a 3 year old sweet boy who is shy when he first meets you but warms up quickly. Simply because of Pablo's breed (pit bull) and the bad rap the breed receives, he is an extra special pet. It takes a special human to recognize it isn't the breed that is the problem, but irresponsible ownership. Pablo is not verry happy in our boarding facility and we would love to find a foster home for him. He's a very mellow dog but would probably do best as the only dog in a home. |

Like Sally, they just get better with age!
Sally Don't let her mature years fool you: Sally has plenty of pep. In her foster home, she loves to start a game of tug-of-war with her canine companions. She's deeply loyal to her humans too, and likes to relax close by your side.
When Sally came to ARFhouse, her heartworm was the most severe case our vets had ever seen. Although her treatment has been very successful, the heartworm history as well as her years mean that a lower-activity household is the perfect place for her (with plenty of play-time, of course). Her foster mom reports that she listens well, follows commands—"and she's a character, for sure!" |

What's so special about Leo?
A tough-looking outside that hides a heart of gold!
 |
Just two months ago Leo was found wandering along Fullerton Avenue, freezing and rail-thin. Thanks to some loving care, his affectionate nature now shines through. Leo can't wait to enjoy a car ride or a long walk. He enjoys playing with other dogs, too. But the best is snuggling time, whenever he can find a lap to squeeze onto!
Leo is housebroken, walks well on a leash, and responds eagerly to training—he's mastering "sit" very well! He's ready for that special person to come along, someone who will see past his rough outside to the gentle heart within. |
What's so special about Jacques?
A charming manner that will sweep you off your feet!
Handsome, playful, affectionate... we think Jacques is pretty close to perfect. How else could his foster mom report that he is "beloved by all, from the doormen, to his dog neighbors, to every person he meets on the street"?
This popular Papillon mix may be a senior, but he's full of spirit. Just watch him jump with glee when it's time for a walk, prance happily down the street, or show off his expert fetching skills. Jacques is also fully housetrained, and compatible with dogs and cats. And full of surprises, too—he just let his foster mom in on the secret that he knows commands like "lie down" and "roll over"! |
